Rudiments / Rhythm Lab
Make music with your feet
Tap is half dance, half drumming. We build clean sounds first — shuffles, flaps and time steps with crisp articulation — then teach you to improvise over live rhythm tracks in our weekly rhythm lab, trading phrases with the room like jazz musicians.
Clean rudiments — shuffles, flaps, buffalos and time steps with even, clear sounds.
Rhythm lab — improvisation games, call-and-response and trading fours.
Choreography — one ensemble piece per term, from classic to rhythm tap.
Shoe clinic — fitting advice, screw care and floor etiquette for lasting taps.

Questions
Do I need tap shoes to start?
Hard-soled shoes work for the first two weeks; the academy stocks loaner taps while you shop.
Is tap hard on the knees?
Our floor is sprung maple and technique stays relaxed and low-impact — coaches correct pounding early.
Will I perform?
Yes — the ensemble piece closes every term, and rhythm-lab improvisers get a spotlight set.
