The lamps were lit before the audience sat down — that was the first sign this would not be an ordinary stage night. Our classical showcase opened with an invocation piece performed by the senior batch, bells on ankles, eyes carrying half the story before a single step landed.
What makes temple dance demanding is its stillness: every gesture means something, and the audience reads intention the way concert crowds read melody. Our students performed three traditional items and one contemporary interpretation, each introduced with a short explanation of the story behind the steps.
The evening closed with debut variations from four Barre II dancers — their first time performing classical repertory outside class. The applause midway through the second variation said everything about how far a year of careful training carries a dancer.
Missed it? The winter showcase repeats the format with new pieces. Members attend free; seats for guests open two weeks before the night.
